LAN Commander is software distribution and centralized control software for Macintosh computers. LAN Commander adds a menu of powerful commands which give you complete control over your networked computers.

Figure 1. LAN Commander gives you complete control.
With LAN Commander, you can:
• Distribute and collect files and folders. Simultaneously distribute and collect files, saving hours of time normally spent copying files to individual computers. By broadcasting data instead of serially copying to each computer, LAN Commander drastically reduces file distribution time.
• Install software. Once you install software on one computer, you can use LAN Commander to distribute those files simultaneously to all the computers on your network.
• Move files to the trash and empty the trash. Keep your systems free from clutter by moving unwanted files to the trash on each computer. Then empty the trash on all the computers with just one command.
• Launch and quit applications. Control what applications your users are running. One simple window lets you see and control what applications are currently running, which application is the front application, and which applications are hidden.
• Restart and shutdown computers. Make the end of the day a simple pleasure by shutting all the computers down with one command. You can also give them all a new start with the restart command.
• Perform configuration tasks. Set the sound level, monitor depth, and File Sharing status, mount and unmount volumes, and synchronize clocks.
• Send messages to all the computers on the network. Let your coworkers know about backups or new software installations. Let your students know it’s time to stop working on that test. With LAN Commander’s Send Message command, you can send a message that will be instantly noticed.
• Lock screens or mice and keyboards. Make sure no one is using the computer when you’re performing configuration tasks, or make sure your training class is paying attention to you instead of playing the game they just discovered. Locking the screen turns it black so there’s no visual distraction; locking the mice and keyboards lets you leave the screen as it is but not allow any interaction from the user.
• Audit system information, including hardware configuration and installed software. LAN Commander’s Collect System Info command lets you see what software you have on each computer, including system software, applications, control panels, and extensions. You can also find out what types of Macintosh computers you have, what monitors and peripherals are present, and how much memory each computer has.
LAN Commander is the essential tool for reducing the time and effort in managing computer networks.
